An exhibition has opened at the Portrait gallery, Edinburgh on Scottish Variety theatre called Tickling Jock.
I am giving a talk on 14th August at the National Gallery, The Mound. 12.45-13.30.

Can anyone at the Society advise me when the Half Past shows and 5 past 8 shows ended. The first Half past 8 show was 1933 in Glasgow, then opening in Edinburgh the following year. But when in the 1960s did the show end. ? thank you.

The Abercrombie along with Fitch Style may be the seem, the texture, identical to your appearance in which just about all can try. Abercrombie as well as Fitch Denver colorado normally utilizes male design only once, enabling campus fellas to search to expand modeling careers.

Hello Roy and Jackie
Do you remember me? I also have happy memories of our time at the Pavilion as a Moxon dancer. I lived on the caravan site near where you had digs and you often gave me a run home. I enjoyed your book by the way.

I was very impressed with your wonderful website, and felt very flattered that you had included Roy and myself. It was nice to know we have not been forgotten.Roy, or Roland as he was first known when we made our debut in the Jack Milroy Show at the Glasgow Pavilion as Roland Roy and Jackie Toaduff. Our seasons in Scotland were some of the happiest days of our lives. What a priviledge it was and an education to work with the greatest of Scottish comeadians Jack Milroy, Jack Radcliffe, Alec Finlay, Johnny Victory, Chic Murray and Madie, Jimmy Logan and the great Lex Mclean and of course their great feeds, like Carr and Vonnie,Ronnie Dale, Margo Bentley Hector Nichol, Bond Rowel, Glenn Michael, Aileen O Gorman etc. we loved them all and learned a lot from our many seasons in Bonnie Scotland working together. Since then we have worked all over the world with the likes of Ginger Rogers, Ruby Keeler, Jane Russell, James Cagney and many more Hollywood L

Hello, I would be grateful if you could tell me the whereabouts of Betty Clarkson. My late parents were good friends of herlate Father-in-law, George Clarkson, and I have not seen in her in nearly 30 years.

Kind regards

Dear Donna,
In my young days in Glasgow, I was next door neighbour to your father and his mother, May Campbell when we all lived in Berkeley Street, Glasgow, oppoosite the St. Andrews Halls. I was always pleased to see your father when he came to visit
his Mum and I used to love to listen to your father's stories about his career but was
very saddened to hear fo his death at such a young age. What ever happened to your
mother - she was a beautiful woman. Love to hear from you.

I am trying to find an old theatre poster with my parents' name on. They were called 'Tommy and Sylvia Snapp' and worked with Carroll Levis in the 50's in Scotland. I know that they worked at the Edinburgh Palladium and they did a summer season at the Concert Hall on Leven Promendade (around 1961). Can you help?
Regards, Sharon Swan

I regret I know very little about the Scottish Variety Theatre as I did not visit tScotland until seven years ago I knew the Finsbury ParkEmpire,Hackney Empire,Shepherds Bush Empire (all in London ), commencing 1942 aged 14 from ,then on twice a week visits.
I remember the variety artistes well, and am glad that there is such a Society keeping the spirit of Music Hall alive.Your VarietyTheatres and ours were no different. The same artistes etc. A really enjoyable read through Many thanks

Hello Friends
If you check my special website childrenschoices I have placed there a photo of a playbill for the Empress Theatre Glasgow starring Jimmy Logan and with the cast to include The Sandow Sisters trapeze act. I was there at the time if not a performer and remember very well that week or another week, because the family appeared a few times for Jimmy Logan, a wonderful Scottish hanbalancing act. I recall the young daughter being about 17 years of age - about 1950 period. Any idea who this act might be? I know the father was most friendly with my parents.

My parents appeared at the Glasgow Empire (first when I was about three in 1952, I think it was) with Laurel & Hardy, and a number of times after that and had a few stories of the stormy relationship between audiesnes and stars. Their name was "Walthon and Dorraine" and they were a comedy balancing and juggling act. Such a shame the variety theatre of yesteryear is no longer with us - happy days!

We have recently purchased Lex McLeans house in Helensburgh and have found some lovely photos and other interesting items. this has started a thirst for information about him and his wife Grace, her sister Linda and the dance troupe the ladies were in. Any information would be gratefully received.

I am looking for any information on 'glass water tank' acts that were part of the variety hall circuit in the 1890s. Any information/links would be greatfully accepted. My thanks in anticipation.
